"Wil, please. There are…there are things down here."
―Gideon to Wilhuff Tarkin, on the creatures in the crevice[1]

According to a story told by the Espirion Saan, a creature was native to[1] the planet[2] Eadu.[1] Many years before 0 BBY,[3] the human boy Gideon traveled to Eadu with their father and their brother Wilhuff Tarkin to survey the planet for lommite[1] ore.[4] During the trip, Gideon fell into a ravine with multiple of the creatures in it. Unable to escape due to an injured ankle, Gideon called for their brother to help, but Tarkin ignored Gideon and abandoned the boy, allowing his brother to be attacked and killed by the creatures.[1]

Many years later, in 0 BBY,[3] Tarkin had a vision of Eadu onboard the Death Star space station which ended with the same creatures appearing and attacking him. The creatures were quadrupedal, with yellow eyes, sharp teeth, brown skin, and spikes on their backs.[1] Sometime between 21 ABY and 35 ABY,[5] Saan told the story that included the creatures to the human First Order defector Fry.[6]

Behind the scenes

The species appeared in "The Haunting of Grand Moff Tarkin," a comic story[1] depicted as an in-universe tale told by Saan.[6] The story was written by Cavan Scott, illustrated by Ingo Römling, and published by Dark Horse Comics in the 2023 graphic novel Tales from the Death Star.[1]
