A black marketeer was making a deal[1] by 3643 BBY.[2] In order to ensure there was no foul play, they wanted a well-known person present to discourage troublemakers.[1]
Around that year,[2] an individual associated with one of the two opposing governments in the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire sent a companion of theirs to the black marketeer's deal. The unexpected presence of the companion, who fit the black mareteer's criteria of being well known, was enough to unnerve any potential troublemakers. As a result, the deal was a safe, albeit tense, event.[1]
Behind the scenes
The black marketeer was mentioned in BioWare's 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, within the Crew Skill Mission "Fair Play," though the information regarding the mission's outcome was later removed from the game.[1]

Star Wars: The Old Republic — Underworld Trading Crew Skill mission: "Fair Play"
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Per the reasoning here, Act I of Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place around 3643 BBY. Since players of The Old Republic can assign their companions on the mission "Fair Play" independently of the main class storyline at any point during the game, the mission must take place at some point around 3643 BBY.
