A baby was a relative to the Force-sensitive human male Obi-Wan Kenobi prior to joining the Jedi Order. Although he was taken from his family when he was young, Obi-Wan still had vague memories, glimpses and flashes of his past, notably remembering his mother's shawl, his father's hands, and a baby. Obi-Wan believed the baby to be his brother, as he once told young Princess Leia Organa, and wished he did remember more about him.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Obi-Wan Kenobi's sibling was first mentioned in "Part III" of the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi,^[1] which premiered on June 1, 2022.^[2] In the script of the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the last installment of the Star Wars original trilogy, it was originally suggested that Kenobi's brother was Owen Lars,^[3] an idea that was included in the film's novelization by James Kahn,^[4] though the finished film did not include it.^[5] This would be acknowledged in later Star Wars Legends works.

The 1999 junior novel Jedi Apprentice: The Hidden Past included Kenobi experiencing a vision of his childhood, including a brother named Owen,^[6] however the 2002 prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones established that Lars and Kenobi were not biologically related, and that Lars was instead Anakin Skywalker's step-brother.^[7] The 2015 short story "Lone Wolf: A Tale of Obi-Wan and Luke" by Abel G. Peña later suggested that Kenobi's earlier vision had in fact been of his future life on Tatooine, living in exile with some interaction with Lars.^[8]
