A depiction of the Jedi instructing the clan member
A human individual served as a Jedi of the Jedi Order. Hundreds of years before the Imperial Era, the Jedi traveled to the[1] Outer Rim[2] planet Tao, where he met a member of the Yasaburō clan. He entrusted his lightsaber to the clan member and taught them how to wield it[1] and the Jedi ethos.[3] The Jedi died on Tao,[1] and natives of the planet watched as the Jedi's starship returned to the sky.[3]
Both the Jedi's lightsaber and the techniques he taught the clan member were passed down through the Yasaburō clan for generations. The lightsaber became a treasured heirloom representing the bond between parent and child in the family, as well as a symbol representing the clan's unwavering resolve. It was kept in a box decorated with golden images of the Jedi meeting the clan member and instructing them as they trained.[1] Between 12 BBY and 1 BBY,[4] Yasaburō, the head of the clan, passed down the lightsaber to his daughter Lop in a ritual. Before giving her the lightsaber, he told Lop of the Jedi, describing him as a great warrior, and informed her of his instruction of the clan's ancestor.[1]
Personality and traits
The Jedi was a human with long hair and a beard.[1]
Powers and abilities
The Jedi was Force-sensitive and was capable of instructing the Yasaburō clan member in lightsaber combat. Yasaburō described the Jedi as a great warrior.[1]
Equipment
The Jedi wielded a green-bladed lightsaber.[1] The lightsaber's blade was gently curved and had engravings on it.[3] He also used a starship to travel to Tao and wore Jedi robes.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Jedi was first depicted in an image decorating a box in "Lop & Ochō," a short film in the non-canon Star Wars: Visions series. The animated short was produced by Geno Studio, written by Sayawaka, directed by Yuki Igarashi, and released on Disney+[1] on September 22, 2021.[5] Before the short's release, the Jedi was first mentioned simultaneously in the original Japanese and English dub trailers for the series, which were both uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel on August 17.[6][7] Concept art of the images depicting the Jedi were included in The Art of Star Wars: Visions, a 2022 art book written by Zack Davisson.[3]
