A governor served the Galactic Empire on the Outer Rim planet Pipada. By 1 BBY, a movement was formed for the Drabatan singer Sa'Kalla, who was captured and tortured by the Empire for protesting its rule. When the movement threatened Imperial control on Pipada, the governor brought Sa'Kalla to the Pipada Auditorium and ordered her to persuade the crowd to submit to the Empire. However, she called out to her people to continue their resistance, resulting in her execution on stage. The stadium erupted, and the Drabatans killed the Imperial security forces.

An Imperial governor served the Galactic Empire on[1] the Outer Rim[2] planet Pipada.[1] By 1 BBY,[3] the amphibious native Drabatans of the planet protested the Empire's rule, with one of the most vocal protesters being the young and popular singer Sa'Kalla. In response, the Empire launched a crackdown on Pipada. Sa'Kalla was eventually captured and tortured by the Imperial forces. While in captivity, a movement was formed in Sa'Kalla's name and spread across the planet.[1]

When the Imperial forces were under threat of being overwhelmed by the violence caused by the movement, the governor brought Sa'Kalla to the Pipada Auditorium facing half a million Drabatans and, convinced she had been broken through torture, ordered her to convince the Drabatans to submit to the Empire. Instead, she defiantly called out to the crowd, telling them to continue their resistance before she was immediately killed on stage. The stadium erupted in violence, and the Drabatans tore apart the Imperial security forces. They briefly reclaimed their homeworld before the Empire returned with heavy reinforcements and imposed martial law across the planet.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Imperial governor was mentioned in Dawn of Rebellion, a 2018 roleplaying sourcebook published by Fantasy Flight Games for the Star Wars Roleplaying game.[1]

  3. Dawn of Rebellion states that Sa'Kalla's name was used as a battle cry after her death. Since her name is used as a battle cry in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story—which Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of to 1 BBY—she must have protested and died by that year.
