"The world keeps changing, it seems. The old world is disappearing every day, eh."
―The Grand Vygoth[2]

A Grand Vygoth of the Wandering Star was a male Pau'an who held the title for a long period of time.[2] Around 231 BBY,[3] during the High Republic Era, an undercover Pau'an agent of the Galactic Republic posed as a member of Wandering Star and met with the Tarnab criminal Arathab Fal about a weapon Fal's boss—the Nihil[4] Doctor Kisma Uttersond[5]—was selling on[4] the planet[6] Vorzyd V.[4]

After Fal asked the agent if he had money ready, the Pau'an responded that he did and noted that the Grand Vygoth was eager to get his hands on the weapon. The agent then stated he had been instructed to ensure that the weapon was legitimate, which caused the Tarnab to contact Uttersond and inform[4] him[5] that Wandering Star were making demands. In response, the doctor told Fal to kill the agent. Before he could, several Nihil arrived and a fight broke out, during which the Tarnab killed the agent and escaped.[4]

During the Imperial Era, Cli Pastayra, who believed the Vygoth's old age had led to the syndicate's deterioration, hoped to overthrow him and take his place. Both Pastayra and the Grand Vygoth were murdered during an auction on Cantonica by Fyzen Gor and his droids.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Grand Vygoth first appeared in the 2018 novel Last Shot, written by Daniel José Older.[2] The second issue of the 2021 comic miniseries Star Wars: The High Republic: Trail of Shadows—which was also written by Older and was released as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[4] Phase I[7]—included a mention of a Grand Vygoth, though it was unconfirmed if he was the same Grand Vygoth that appeared in Last Shot.[4] Older later confirmed on Twitter that the Vygoth mentioned in Trail of Shadows 2 was intended to be the same one as in Last Shot.[8]

I was curious if the Grand Vygoth mentioned here in Trail of Shadows is the same Vygoth that was in Last Shot? The LS Vygoth is described a couple times as being ancient, so wondered if your intent was for him to be the same? Thanks for any help you can give!")
