UK2-B was a droid that was active during the New Republic Era.[2] In 9 ABY,[3] the droid escorted two Gamorrean guards through the palace of Boba Fett and presented them to the newly-risen crime lord, watching intently as Fett chose to spare the prisoners' lives. UK2-B had brown and grey plating and a red sensor.[2]
Behind the scenes
UK2-B appeared in the first episode of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett[2] on December 29, 2021.[4] Chris Bartlett was credited in the episode as the performance artist of UK2-B, though it was not immediately clear which character in the episode this credit referred to. The episode also featured a different droid, 8D8, that was voiced by actor Matt Berry.[2] Some fans and online publications assumed that Berry's character was in fact UK2-B,[5][6] prompting Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo to clarify the identity of Bartlett's character on Twitter.[1]
The costume Bartlett wore in The Book of Boba Fett was originally designed for the 2016 anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where it was used in scenes set on the planet Jedha. This version of the costume featured a different design for the droid's legs, necessitating that the performance artist walk on stilts for the role. Hidalgo described this droid as being of a "similar model" to that of UK2-B.[7]
