A translatacomp, also known as "transcomp", was an electronic translator device that could automatically deduce translations between languages. During an encounter with a google-eyed species, an Alliance corvette's translatacomp failed to translate their language.[1]
History
A translatacomp relied on a dictionary database. Feeding it with more vocabulary and other information, the more accurate the translation.
Leia Organa, while on Shiva IV, had to learn the mysterious Calian language, since it was not recognized by her translatacomp, and update its database herself.
