- "Another juvenile example of a species, this dianoga is named Toothy."
- ―Eloc Throno, Traveler's Guide to Batuu
Toothy was a dianoga pup that was purchased from the gangster Jabba the Hutt by the collector Dok-Ondar in 1 BBY and kept within a specialized tank in his store, Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. The Batuuan farmboy Julen Rakab was interested in the store as a child partially due to the presence of the creature.
Biography

Dok-Ondar offers to buy Toothy from Jabba.
Toothy was a juvenile dianoga purchased by the collector Dok-Ondar from[1] the gangster[3] Jabba Desilijic Tiure[2] in 1 BBY[4] as part of a deal, with Dok-Ondar offering to pay double the original price if the Hutt included the lightsaber of the late Jedi Ki-Adi-Mundi.[2] The Ithorian kept Toothy inside of a[1] specialized[5] tank in his store, Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, at Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu.[1] The local Batuuan farmboy Julen Rakab found Dok-Ondar's store compelling as a child partially due to the presence of Toothy. When Rakab was nineteen years old,[6] in 34 ABY,[7] he corrected the young assistant Tap after the boy claimed people were fed to Toothy as punishment for crossing Dok-Ondar, instead claiming that the dianoga was only given ronto meat.[6]
Also in 34 ABY,[8] the historian Eloc Throno covered the shop, and mentioned Toothy, in his book Traveler's Guide to Batuu.[1] Bina, the proprietor of the nearby Creature Stall[9] in the Black Spire Outpost Market,[10] included Toothy in[9] her[1] interactive book, Bina's Guide to the Creatures of Batuu.[9]
Personality and traits
Behind the scenes
Toothy was created as a prop for Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, a retail location in the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge,[11] which first opened on May 31, 2019, at Disneyland Park.[12] The creature was first mentioned indirectly in a flashback in the second issue of the comic series Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, which was written by Ethan Sacks and published by Marvel Comics[2] on May 22, 2019.[13] The creature was first named in the D23 article "Creatures, Droids, and Aliens: Meet the Fantastical Figures of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge," published on May 29, 2019.[12]
The original unpublished backstory for Toothy stated they were purchased from the Creature Stall, another store in Galaxy's Edge.[5] However, the 2019 reference book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu by Cole Horton and Galaxy's Edge 2 contradicted this detail by stating that Dok-Ondar purchased Toothy from Jabba the Hutt.[1] This article treats the public sources as the canonical version of events.
