"This cheese board showcases the flavors of its host planet–with deviled bulabird eggs and tintolvies plucked fresh from the trees linin' the crystalline cliffs just north of Hanna City–as well as favorite snacks from a number of worlds across the galaxy (all of which are included in this collection). Mix and match what you serve on it and no one will ever get bored of this board."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Tintolives were a type of food that grew on[1] the tintolive trees[2] found on the Core Worlds planet Chandrila. They were an ingredient in a Chandrilan Cheese Board, a dish that showcased the flavors of Chandrila. After making a culinary tour of the galaxy[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a Chandrilan Cheese Board recipe in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook,[1] which was published in 35 ABY.[3] The recipe called for tintolives plucked from the trees that lined the crystalline cliffs north of Hanna City,[1] capital of Chandrila;[4] however, Tuggs encouraged readers to change out what ingredients were included on the board to prevent diners from tiering of it and did not picture tintolives in the Chandrila Cheese Board imagery in the book.[1]

Behind the scenes

Tintolives were mentioned in the 2023 cookbook Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, which was authored by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe for Chandrilan Cheese Board, in which tintolives are used, includes green olives as the real-world equivelant.[1] The term tintolive was first used in the Star Wars Legends continuity in Greg Keyes' 2001 novel The New Jedi Order: Edge of Victory II: Rebirth; however, in that continuity it was only ever used as part of the name of the tintolive tree rather than as a distinct concept.[5]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
