For other uses, see Ring.

"The Ring" was the local name for a black dwarf–type compact star[2] located in the Anoat sector, a part of the Greater Javin region within the Western Reaches portion of the Outer Rim Territories.[1] It was surrounded by highly ionized, radioactive green gas.[2]

Eons before the Galactic Civil War, a star exploded[2] in a supernova.[1] The remnants of the star decayed into what ultimately became the Ring, and the explosion also created the Twin Nebulae—a pair of vast clouds of gas and dust that were eventually named the Ivax and Kiax Nebulae but were technically a single irregular nebula. The Ring itself was situated within the Ivax Nebula.[2]

After the Galactic Republic's victory in a war against the nearby civilization of the Mugaari species[2] at some point between approximately 1000 BBY and 600 BBY,[4] the former established the Javin sector in the former Mugaari Space.[2] Around 400 BBY,[3] the portion of the sector containing the Ring was re-designated as the Anoat sector.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Ring was introduced in Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game supplement "Galactic Gazetteer: Hoth and the Greater Javin," which was published on Wizards.com on March 25, 2004.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the black dwarf in grid square K-18.[1]

Since the supplement dates Figg's death to "nearly four centuries" prior to its setting, the establishment of the Anoat sector can be placed in approximately 400 BBY.

This establishes an approximate time frame of 1000 BBY600 BBY for the war.
