- "His face bore the scars of the Burning, back when Carabba had shoved his cheek against a blaster's muzzle and peeled skin from flesh."
- ―Gunda Mabin writes about the Burning in Smuggler's Guide
The Burning was a process in which a blaster muzzle was pressed against an individual's skin, peeling the skin from the flesh beneath.[1] By 10 BBY,[2] Captain Carabba of the Blazing Claw had scarred the pirate Patchwork Fiddich through the Burning by pressing a blaster against Fiddich's cheek. Fiddich still bore the scar when he later mutinied against Carabba's successor, Gunda Mabin, who later wrote about it in the book that would become known as the Smuggler's Guide.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Burning was mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, which was written by Daniel Wallace.[1] The process originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the 1979 novel Han Solo at Stars' End, which was written by Brian Daley.[3]

- ↑ The entry in Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide mentioning the Burning is placed chronologically prior to an entry written by the criminal Tobias Beckett. Solo: A Star Wars Story depicts Beckett's death on the planet Savareen, and Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide dates the events on Savareen in the film to nine years after the proclamation of the New Order. As Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the proclamation to 19 BBY, Beckett's death must occur in 10 BBY, and so his entry in the guide and those chronologically before it must all be set prior to or during 10 BBY.
