- "You can shoo away a lone steelpecker, but one of the worst things I ever saw happened was when a scavenger named Teng Malar accidentally broke open a hatch below a steelpecker colony. They came from every direction and there was nothing I could do—within ten minutes they'd ripped Teng to shreds."
- ―Rey writes about Malar in her survival guide
Teng Malar was a scavenger who operated on the desert planet Jakku during the New Republic Era. After they accidentally broke open a hatch located beneath a colony of steelpeckers, the scavenger was swarmed by the avians from all directions and torn to pieces within ten minutes. The scavenger Rey—who witnessed Malar's death while powerless to help—wrote about it in a survival guide that[2] she[3] compiled[2] by 34 ABY,[1] describing the scavenger's fate as one of the worst things she had ever seen.[2]
Behind the scenes
Teng Malar was mentioned in Rey's Survival Guide, a 2015 replica journal written by Jason Fry.[2]
