Suggested Template Rename
I feel that the current name for this template, "FFGSWTCG", is unnecessarily complex and an alphabet soup of letters that is not consistent with the naming of other templates (most abbreviations are 3 letters with 5 being the longest for KOTOR. This at 8 letters is an outlier). Moreover, the abbreviation "TCG" could stand for "The Card Game" or "Trading Card Game", which may lead to confusion with the Star Wars Trading Card Game. I would like to suggest that we change the template to "Star Wars: The Card Game", thus eliminating any confusion about the meaning of the acronym, making it less of an alphabet soup, and keeping it in line with the other template names. -Thunderforge (talk) 22:13, July 12, 2013 (UTC)
- No, there is no need to make these changes. There are plenty of examples of acronym templates: {{Template:GACOS}}, {{Template:NJO}}, {{Template:NRCOS}}, {{Template:SWPM}}, {{Template:CCG}}, {{Template:SOTEEMCC}} (8 letters. It seems that you didn't look hard enough), {{Template:CSWECite}} (8 letters. I don't know where you are looking, but you have missed several 8-letter templates.), {{Template:FFG}}, {{Template:FFCite}}, {{Template:FFGTCG}} (a card template concurrently created with the navbox one—someone else other than me establishes the convention), {{Template:FFGXW}}, etc… The reason this works better is that FFG is the company that makes the SW games. An editor that is needed to insert a template into an FFG SW game article only needs to add the initials of the product, and it is simpler to have acronyms than to have wordy templates that editors may not be able to see in the tooltip when the type the first few letters of the navbox they are attempting to insert: {{FFGSW… At the moment, the list of all of them displays. Changes all of their names would discontinue this assistance. —GethralkinHyperwave 00:31, July 13, 2013 (UTC)
- Besides, if you were really interested in "keeping it in line with the other template names"—of which no precedent or standard actually exists as you suggest—then this template would be reduced to Template:LCG to coincide with your example of Template:TCG, of which you are concerned with getting confused with. This would actually keep the problem the same. Therefore, by your argument, this fact strengthens the argument to reject changing this template's name. —GethralkinHyperwave 00:37, July 13, 2013 (UTC)
- Just to reiterate on the length, your suggested change would make this template 20 characters long (without spaces, of course). So, 8 letters, of which there are more examples than this template which you apparently do not like, is not really a big deal. —GethralkinHyperwave 00:53, July 13, 2013 (UTC)
- To sum it all up, the most compelling reasons to keep the templates as is, are that:

- It is more convenient to select an FFGSW template from the tooltip dropdown hover list, when all that is needed to be remembered to be tacked on the end is the product initials: XW, TCG, or EotE. (that should clear up any complexity you are having issues with)
- The templates are already successfully currently in use in many articles, and does not hinder any functionality in their use.
- Moving them to new names will create a needless redirect mess involving the many above-mentioned articles (needless, because the change is not dependent on canon spelling, as in most article redirects).

- The current template name as {{FFGSWTCG}} follows the format being used for {{FFGSWRPG}} that follows precedent made on the FFG forums. —GethralkinHyperwave 22:17, August 18, 2013 (UTC)
