Backup link addition

Hi.

Since the HoloNet News feature's been shut down, think we should add in an actual space to incorporate the backup link, rather than it simply adding prior to the main link the whole archive.org thing? Using that as is just gets us to the same 404 page as if we clicked on the standard link itself, thus rendering the entire point moot. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 22:35, May 8, 2017 (UTC)

Backup link

This template says that the content is unavailable, but there are still archived versions. Thus, shouldn't the template have the link to the archive? --Geek'ari Talk 20:36, May 16, 2017 (UTC)

  • There actually exists an {{{archiveurl}}} parameter so it can be done manually. I don't think it can be automated because the latest version that the Internet Archive has is an error page. See this edit for an example. 1358 (Talk) 21:06, May 16, 2017 (UTC)
    • I created Category:Missing archiveurl in Hnn which is automatically included in pages with Hnn that lack archiveurls. I plan on going through them with a bot so manually editing the pages is unnecessary. However I would appreciate help with finding the correct archive URLs (i.e. I need one for every HoloNet entry, not one for every article), so if anyone wants to help out then please add them to User:Xd1358/test2 using the given example. 1358 (Talk) 21:50, May 16, 2017 (UTC)
      • OK, I'm looking at the test 2 page, and I have a question: Is there a method you used for sorting the links? I can add a few, but I don't want to put them in the wrong place. --Geek'ari Talk 12:33, May 18, 2017 (UTC)
        • I'm just ordering them by volume. The order doesn't really matter to the bot itself, but it's easier to prevent duplicates. In fact, duplicates don't really matter either as long as the formatting is identical, but it's unnecessary work. 1358 (Talk) 17:33, May 19, 2017 (UTC)

Formatting for the HNN Credits page

Because this template adds the # mark in all cases, the citation for the Credits page appears malformed, with a hanging #.
