- "Nemrileo irm-Drocubac (Tanjay IV) died yesterday when his aircar collided with a heavy-equipment delivery vehicle in the S-93 area of the Bindai District."
- ―HoloNet News report
Tanjay IV was a powerful world located in the Core Worlds. During the Alsakan Conflicts, it was allied with the Galactic Republic's capital world, Coruscant. In 22 BBY, during the Separatist Crisis, Tanjay IV's Republic representative Nemrileo irm-Drocubac was part of Commerce Guild Presidente Shu Mai's plot to achieve the secession of a number of Republic worlds. However, for his doubts in Mai's leadership, irm-Drocubac was murdered in what appeared to be a traffic accident on Coruscant.
Description
Tanjay IV,[2] also referred to simply as Tanjay, was a terrestrial world[3] that occupied the fourth orbital position[2] in the Tanjay system. It was a part of the Northern Dependencies portion of the Core Worlds and lay on the Namadii Corridor hyperspace route that linked it to the Coruscant and Weerden systems.[1]
History
- "Representative from Tanjay irm-Drocubac leaves behind a wife and two children. Though active in the growing secessionist faction, and suspected of sympathies with the more extreme members of that movement, he was well respected by his colleagues and coworkers, as well as by his supporters on his homeworld."
- ―Coruscant News Network report
During the conflicts between the Galactic Republic worlds Coruscant and Alsakan, Tanjay IV was allied with the former.
Tanjay IV fell within the borders of the Galactic Republic as early as 17,000 BBY. During the early Alsakan Conflicts, a series of wars that began in 17,018 BBY and saw the Republic's capital world Coruscant, the planet Alsakan, and their respective allies struggle over political and economic control over the Republic, Tanjay IV was affiliated with Coruscant.[4]
By 22 BBY,[6] Nemrileo irm-Drocubac, Tanjay IV's native representative to the Republic, had resided and worked on Coruscant for fifteen years, being respected by his supporters on his homeworld.[3] That year,[6] during the Separatist Crisis, irm-Drocubac was part of Commerce Guild Presidente Shu Mai's plot to have more Republic worlds secede from it. However, he questioned Mai's loyalty to their cause,[3] and for those doubts, he was killed[2] in what was staged to look like a traffic accident on Coruscant.[3] The accident was subsequently reported on by an issue of the CoCo District Edition of HoloNet News on the date 13:4:11[5] as well as by a newsblink of the Coruscant News Network, which erroneously referred to Tanjay IV as "Tanjay VI." Both reports mentioned irm-Drocubac's homeworld,[3][5] with the Coruscant News Network story also noting that, per Tanjay tradition, the representative's ashes would be scattered over Galactic City the following day.[3]
Inhabitants
- "In accordance with Tanjay tradition, [Nemrileo irm-Drocubac's] ashes will be scattered tomorrow above the capital city where he lived and worked for the past fifteen years of his life."
- ―Coruscant News Network report
By the time of the Separatist Crisis, Tanjay IV was a powerful world. Its inhabitants observed a tradition of scattering a deceased person's ashes over a city.[3]
Behind the scenes
Tanjay IV was introduced in The Approaching Storm.
Tanjay IV was first mentioned in Alan Dean Foster's[3] January 29, 2002[7] novel The Approaching Storm. In the novel, the full name of the world is given as "Tanjay VI;"[3] however, it is instead referred to as Tanjay IV by both HoloNet News Vol. 531 #55, a representation of an in-universe issue of the HoloNet News[5] written by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens[8] and published on the HoloNet News website on April 11, 2002,[9] and 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia. This article assumes the latter designation to be correct and the former name to be an in-universe error.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Tanjay system, and therefore Tanjay IV, in grid square K-9.[1]
