The Tanis Legion, with the numerical designation of 17th, was a Sith trooper legion of the Sith Eternal, a dark side Sith cult based on the throneworld Exegol in the Unknown Regions. Consisting of five-thousand troopers within its structure, the legion was in service during the war between the First Order and the Resistance until the Sith Eternal's forces were defeated in 35 ABY during the Battle of Exegol. As their history was hidden from the rest of the galaxy, only the Sith Eternal's cultists understood the significance of the legion's name: the ancient Sith Lord Darth Tanis.
Description
The Tanis Legion consisted of 5,000 Sith troopers (pictured).
The Tanis Legion, with 17th as its numerical designation, was a legion within the army of the Sith Eternal, a dark side cult that worshipped the Sith and was headquartered on the Unknown Regions Sith[1] throneworld[4] Exegol. All Sith Eternal legions were numerically designated and given the name of an ancient Sith Lord, which was Darth Tanis for the 17th. Only the Sith Eternal cultists understood the significance of the names given to their legions, as their history was hidden to the rest of the galaxy.[1]
The legion consisted of five-thousand Sith troopers and Sith Jetpack Troopers[2]— soldiers created from the offspring of cultists[1] and children conscripted into the ranks of the First Order who were identified and disappeared due to their potential.[5] The troopers within the legion were further divided into squadrons of ten each, split between standard troopers and aerial soldiers.[2] As the Tanis Legion was comprised of Sith troopers, these troopers were equipped with crimson red Sith trooper armor and could be armed with ST-W48 blaster rifles or FWMB-10B repeating blasters, while Sith Jetpack Troopers were provided with NJP-900 integrated jetpacks and armed with F-11ABA heavy blaster cannons.[1]
History
The Tanis Legion was active by the time of the war between the First Order and the Resistance,[1] which took place from 34 ABY to 35 ABY.[6] The Sith Eternal and its forces were defeated during the Battle of Exegol[7] in 35 ABY[6] when an allied Resistance contingent and a Citizens' Fleet from across the galaxy defeated Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious and the entirety of his forces,[7] including the Tanis Legion.[3]
