Name (part I)

With the revelations of Winter's parents, should this be moved to Winter Retrac Celchu? Kuralyov 00:03, 19 Nov 2005 (UTC)

I hate to nitpick, but are we sure Winter's original last name *IS* Retrac? Winter's mother may have kept her maiden name for political reasons, and Winter's real last name could be that of her unnamed father. Just my two credits. StarNeptune 02:42, 29 Nov 2005 (UTC)

  • On a related note, if Winter was adopted by Bail Organa, shouldn't she, as Leia's elder adopted sister, have been the Organa heir? Or am I missing something? QuentinGeorge 05:05, 29 Nov 2005 (UTC)
    • Succession might work different for Alderaanians. Anyway, the galaxy at large was under the impression that Leia was their real daughter, weren't they? That could explain it, as well as the fact that Winter was apparently raised in a vastly different manner than Leia. CooperTFN 05:25, 29 Nov 2005 (UTC)
      • Lived on a planet of pacifists...her maiden name is Carter backwards...is her dad Jeemee? ;) Thanos6 06:30, 29 Nov 2005 (UTC)
  • At the same time, StarNeptune, we've oddly decided based on two examples (Mara and Leia) that most human cultures have adopted the pattern of accepting the male's surname after marriage. IIRC, the 15th century marked the earliest examples of non-aristocratic use of surnames. Even some Western cultures use a different format, like the Spanish tradition of accepting both the father's and mother's last name for children. --SparqMan 18:56, 16 Jan 2006 (UTC)

About the adoption/succession question: Leia was the "first" daughter because she had been adopted earlier. So even though Winter was older, Leia was the Crown Princess (or whatever they call it on Alderaan) by "birthright." Like Cooper pointed out, only a few were aware of the fact that Leia wasn't Bail Organa's biological daughter. That's how I reason this thing anyway :) --Tinwe 21:59, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Leia was raised as the princess, while Winter was raised as an aide. She's not in the sucession at all. Think of it in terms of a non-blood monarchy. Winter was not raised as Bail's daughter--The Erl 21:17, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
    • She more or less was raised as Bail's daughter, really. The difference is that Leia was passed off as his biological daughter. Almost no one knew she was adopted. And there probably wasn't a formal adoption of Winter, or else she'd likely have ended up wit the name "Winter Organa". Red XIV 01:00, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

How come she isn't addressed as "Princess Winter"? Even though she is adopted, in the case that Leia died before taking the crown, or died as queen without having her children, Winter would have been next in line for the crown, correct? Unless they had some different process as our earth process, like the odd Naboo process.Nick sponge 00:48, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Name (part II)

  • Tasty reaffirms that any surnames we've attached to Winter are purely speculative at this point. Should we move her back to Winter? Or maybe slap a "Conjecture" tag up? Or are our speculations reasonable enough that neither course of action is necessary? jSarek 19:30, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
    • I think move her back to Winter. - Breathesgelatin 01:29, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Oh, for the love of god, people, we are not shapers. We can make guesses on unfamiliar ground. These are more than reasonable assumptions. There have been several of instances of human women taking their husbands surnames in the GFFA. Iella Wessiri Antilles, Mirax Terrik Horn, Tendra Risant Calrissian, and Leia Organa Solo. Come on, people. -- SFH 23:29, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
    • If we make guesses on unfamiliar ground with regard to titles, then we need to be marking it with a "conjecture" tag. This isn't the place for assumptions, even if reasonable, without properly marking it as such, either by tagging it or putting it in the Bts section. jSarek 00:09, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Name confirmed as "Winter Celchu" in Exile. (p. 88) If somebody could please move the article, I'm off to finish the book... :P Charlii 21:27, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Birth year

Which one is it: 21 BBY or 20 BBY? This page, as well as 21 BBY, has it in 21 BBY, but her mother's page and 20 BBY have it at 20 BBY. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 19:33, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Areas for Improvement

Off the top of my head (I know there is much more than what I am going to list), we need: 1. Discussion of Winter's intelligence activities, particularly those in conjunction with Rogue Squadron (from both the X-Wing novels and comics), 2. Winter's role in protecting the young Solo children on Anoth, particularly from Champions of the Force, 3. Some information (if there is any) for Behind the Scenes about Zahn's creation of Winter and her purpose as a foil for Leia.

OK. I have added stuff from the first two X-Wing novels and from Champions of the Force. What is still needed:

  1. Describe or flesh out her role in the following minor sources (some are currently mentioned but need to be double-checked for extra info):
    The Princess Leia Diaries
    Rebel Dawn
    Dark Empire II
    Children of the Jedi
    Planet of Twilight
    Darksaber
    Shield of Lies
    The New Rebellion
  2. Her role in the Thrawn trilogy (I will do this but I appear to be missing Heir to the Empire, if someone could do that book for me). We'll probably need a new subheading for this.
  3. Finish up her role X-Wing novels 3 and 4 (I will do this).
  4. Finish up her role in the Jedi Academy trilogy (I will do this).
  5. Write more detailed info from the X-Wing comics (I do not have all of these and won't until the appropriate omnibus comes out; if someone wants to do that it would be great):
Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron: The Rebel Opposition
Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron: Battleground: Tatooine
Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron: Masquerade
Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron: Mandatory Retirement
  6. Her role in the NJO: (I don't have any of those books, please someone else do it–it will probably require only minor work)
    Balance Point
    Destiny's Way
    The Unifying Force
  7. A brief mention of her status at the time of Betrayal and any other sources where she was "mentioned only" (if relevant) (I can do this).
  8. Write a personality section (I can do this).
  9. Add some more info to Behind the scenes (I can do this).
  10. Scan and upload pictures (can someone do this?):
The picture of Winter from Rogue Squadron Handbook
Any picture of Winter impersonating Leia from Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron: The Rebel Opposition
  11. Double-check all sourcebooks for information that is not yet included.

Changes

I rewrote a bit of the middle section which stated false facts. She was never a Rogue Squadron pilot, even if she worked with them from time to time. And she was not at Brentaal. Custodes 09:34, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

River of Chaos

Does Winter actually appear in this comic? I have gone over and over it and don't see her once. - breathesgelatinTalk 10:05, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

"Winter favored formal, elaborate dresses."

Not that it's enormously important, but in there a source for that? Coop 01:11, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Sure is. Actually, if you will note, I have sourced similar statement her "Personalities and traits" section. This fact is noted by Leia twice, once in Heir to the Empire and once in Children of the Jedi. It goes along with the whole Leia is a tomboy while Winter is more glamourous thing from their childhood; Leia basically notes that she likes more casual stuff than Winter. In the first case Leia notes that Winter is always dressed up and even when she's wearing a robe she rocks it like she's dressed up. That's from the beginning to Heir, where Winter is first introduced. In the second case, Leia notes that Winter and Han choose really expensive clothing for her, which she finds ridiculous. It's implied that Winter would like such clothes. The whole thing goes along with Winter's general formality. I suppose you could say that the images of Rogue Squadron comics might contradict this, but even then whenever she's not on the job Winter is changing into dresses and stuff. And pretty much in every other image we have of her she's really dressed up. So there are definitely legitimate sources for it and it's implied by other images we have, if not explicitly confirmed. - breathesgelatinTalk 03:15, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Language clerity

In the "The defection of Sate Pestage" section, I have no idea what is going on at some points.

"Successfully testing her disguise, Winter discussed the relationship between Tycho and herself, without him catching on to the deception."

Discussed with who? I'm guessing Tycho, but the language is really unclear.

"After arriving on Eiattu 6, Han Solo sent Tycho up to Leia's room, where he finally met the disguised Winter and shared several kisses."

What? Tycho and Winter had been together for a while by then, so they didn't "finally meet." Did Tycho just then find out that "Leia" was Winter in disguise? I'm guessing that's what happens, but it almost sounds like they did it in Leia's room while she was somewhere else in the building, or Tycho thought he was gettin' with Leia (sorry for the "did it" part, but that's really what it sounds like). I'd fix all this myself, but I haven't read the books, so I'm not sure what's being implied. -- Zelda Death 09:27, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Question about her supposed adoption

This is something that has been bothering me for a long time now. Everyone seems to take the fact that she was adopted by the Organa family as given, yet I don't remember seeing a source that would have confirmed this once and for all. Yes, she was orphaned, she lived in the Organa household and was Leia's best friend and all, but does that automatically signify adoption? Her behaviour around Leia always seemed (to me at least) too formal for a sister (she keeps calling her "Highness," for example), it is much more like that of a loyal servant. Could it be that she was a sort of "foster daughter" of the Organas, much like Neena, but never actually adopted? I could be wrong, I don't claim to know all the sources covering Winter's life like the back of my hand, but I'd be grateful if someone could provide me with some solid proof. --Tinwe 15:58, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Her Birth Year

According to Leia's article, Winter must have been born on 21 BBY, being 2 years older than Leia, but Winter's article says that she was born on 19 BBY, which one is the correct date?--Jaichigo 05:56, October 28, 2009 (UTC)Jaichigo

Winter and Tycho

How long were Winter and Tycho in a Relationship before getting Married and how many times did Winter visit Tycho when Tycho was imprisoned and what does Winter do when visiting Tycho and what do Winter and Tycho do when they spend time together and does Winter love Tycho Deeply and would Winter really leave Tycho if he didn't retire and do Winter and Tycho have Children? --Spete15 (talk) 09:02, January 19, 2016 (UTC)
