This (TIE/x2) seems to be a differnet ship from the TIE/ad aka TIE Avenger.

Star Wars Adventure Journal 5 notes the TIE/x2 was produced in very limited numbers (32 units) and where all returned to their production facility. The Avenger was clearly produced in larger numbers and those fighters where put into combat. It makes more sense to me that the TIE/x2 is a much earlier prototype. The source also describes the TIE/x3 sharing simmilar wings to those of the TIE/x1 and TIE/x2 which would mean that the x1 and x2 have the same or simmilar wings. I think (and I may be wrong) this article incorrectly states that the x2 has configured those wings to increase visibility as the source seems to be saying that about the x3 not the x2. Based on this source the x3 sounds like an early TIE/IN which would have existed before the Avenger thus chronologicly I dont belive it makes sense that the x2 and Avenger would be the same ship. - Lukeskydragon (hope I did this right)

Actual Source

The newsnet article was most likely referring to the non-hyperspace non-missile TIE Advanced prototypes that can be acquired in The Far Orbit Project. They were presumably returning to Liana when the Alliance privateer ship encounters them in the Scenario Hook “TIE Prototypes.” 209.54.4.42 06:16, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
