I could be wrong, but isn't this the Insignia of Unity? I'm pretty sure they said in the novel Millennium Falcon that the Insignia of Unity was the emblem that was on the Chancellor's podium in the Senate. (Mind you, I finished the book a while ago, so I don't remember.) Grand Moff Tranner Imperial Department of Military Research (Comlink) 12:16, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Technically... in the book it does say that the Insignia of Unity was on the Senate podium which would make it this symbol. However, according to the description James Luceno gives in the book it is the symbol that is featured in the article. On page 308 in the novel its described as a "gleaming three-meter-tall by three-meter-wide emblem... an eight-rayed-stellar symbol, centered in a circle whose circumference was made up of dashed lines." Galacti Roundel

What is the source for this being called the Galactic Roundel? Apotheoses Jedi 21:06, 27 May 2009 (UTC-6)

"Unification Wars symbol"...

I have an issue with the following quotes that were on this page: "In 25,000 BBY a reduced form of the Jedi/Bendu-inspired symbol was used by the Republic during the Unification Wars."

"A reduced Galactic Roundel used during the Unification Wars and Clone Wars"

"Interestingly, in ROTS during the Battle of Coruscant, Anakin's fighter bears a six-spoke symbol instead of the eight-spoke symbol seen through-out the rest of the movie . This can be seen when R2 fights the buzz droid. In the Revenge of the Sith: Incredible Cross-Sections it is explained that this symbol was used by the Republic during the Unification Wars."

Uh, isn't it possible that you guys are reading the Cross-Sections description incorrectly? If you look at the picture from the book here, it says, quote: "Reduced form of the Jedi-Bendu inspired emblem used in Unification Wars that formed the Galactic Republic over 25,000 years ago".

That quote could be interpreted as "this logo was used in the Unification Wars", but it makes much more sense to read it as "This symbol is a reduced form of the Jedi-Bendu symbol/Galactic Roundel that was used during the Unification Wars". Come on, give it a shot. If you read the original quote over again, you'll see that its extremely ambiguous and can be taken either way due to the grammatical failures involved.

Furthermore, why would the six-spoked symbol be used in the Unification Wars in the first place?! The six spokes were used by factions such as the CIS, Sith Empire (TOR), and Galactic Empire as corruptions of the Galactic Roundel. Why would the Republic intentionally deface their own symbol like that, only to switch it back to the full version after the war? It doesn't make any sense. Since the only source for this symbol being used during the Unification Wars is a poorly worded sentence from a cross-sections book that holds no credibility at all if you read it a certain way, I propose deleting the parts that say this symbol was used during the Unification Wars.

The symbol in question is just the precursor to Palpatine's corruption of the original Roundel, and was almost certainly only used during the Clone Wars. Read over the original quote one more time - "Reduced form of the Jedi-Bendu inspired emblem used in Unification Wars ". and you'll see that you've all been misreading the description in the cross-section book this whole time and spreading misinformation.

Would this basic visual guide to the chronological development of the Bendu roundel be of any use for the article? (Given the dispute about it I haven't included theorignal roundel as the Unification wars Republic logo). Direct link: http://imgur.com/vCXXg

Defaced

Is it correct to say that Palpatine "defaced" the GR to create the Imperial Crest?

"Defaced" usually implies vandalising something. Unless Palpatine was personally going round breaking spokes off various Roundels to spite people, wouldn't "altered" or "modified" or "adapted" be more accurate? 109.151.138.148 07:04, June 4, 2012 (UTC)
