Would it be appropriate to use a picture of his pre-cyborg statue from TCW? ralok (talk) 19:10, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
Do you have a specific image in mind?AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 19:11, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
[[file:kaleesh_statue_far.png|right|200px]]One of these two images, I they are the closest thing to a canon depiction of unmodified Kaleesh. These are just screencaps from thenetflix version, if there is a blu-ray version someone could grab them from that I think. ralok (talk) 20:06, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
Having just viewed the images through the upload log, I would recommend the distance shot. Can you find a higher res image?AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 20:22, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
I unfortunately have access to neither the Blu-ray or the DVD copies of the film, I have a friend who has the Blu-ray I will call him and ask him to send me the screenshot with the PS4 (the PS4 is reaaally good for getting blu-ray screengrabs, saves a lot of hassle.) ralok (talk) 20:25, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
Aaaand... he said no, since he doesnt like to do the social media thing... whelp. I am going to be saving up my pennies, if anyone else seeing this has the blu-ray could you lend us a hand? ralok (talk) 20:29, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
I might be able to do this, if it's possible to do it with the PlayStation 3. Is that possible to do? If it is, I might, but it may take a week or two. ProfessorTofty (talk) 20:39, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
How about this one? You may want to better crop it but let me know if the quality is good enough. Cevan (talk) 20:42, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
A very good place holder until we can get something better. Put it on, but also keep the pic of Grevious.AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 20:45, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
Here's a closer version of his head if you'd like to use this instead (you'll probably want to crop it closer though). Cevan (talk) 20:48, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
My old ones should be deleted now that there are higher quality ones up here. ralok (talk) 20:59, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
One thing to keep in mind - although these statues did appear in Grievous' lair, there are no canonical sources that I'm aware of which identify the statues of being Grievous himself. So you can identify the statue as a Kaleesh, but not as Grievous (unless you find a source saying they are Grievous). - Brandon Rhea(talk) 21:47, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
There are other statues of Grievous in his lair in which he has his cybernetic arms, and one where he has part of his current mask on, so I think it's very safe to say that they are statues of Grievous before he fully became a cyborg. Cevan (talk) 21:57, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
You're probably right, but a well-founded assumption still isn't the same thing as a source. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 22:27, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps, but I don't think everything needs to be spelled out in bold letters for us. Some things are just heavily hinted at/implied and we need to make the connection ourselves. It's highly unlikely that Grievous would have statues of a Kaleesh warrior in his lair that has cybernetic arms and a mask just like him, so it's pretty evident that they're showing that this is Grievous pre-full cybernetic overhaul. "Another chamber slowly creaks open revealing a dark corridor that leads to more creepy rooms filled with statues of a glorious alien warrior. The last chamber opens to suspended armored belonging to General Grievous -- the Jedi have unwittingly penetrated the Separatist warlord's lair! "-From Lair of Grevious Episode Guide. Seems pretty obvious to me.AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 22:37, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
But it's not from a sourcing standpoint. It does not identify the glorious alien warlord. Just looking it as a fan or a reader, then yeah, duh, it's probably Grievous. But at the same time, I can't say that with 100% certainty, which means we should not be identifying those statues as being statues of Grievous. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 22:42, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
Lets just put the zoomed out pic as the main pick on Kaleesh/Canon. Put Statue of Kaleesh Warlord in caption.AV-6R7User talk:AV-6R7 22:44, November 8, 2014 (UTC)
Alright, although it's now considered Legends, in The Dreams of General Grievous, which is the tie-in TCW webcomic taking place right before Lair of Grievous which has Grievous dreaming about his pasts, a couple of the poses of him as a Kaleesh warlord are the exact same as the statues in Lair of Grievous. I know it's Legends now, but it seems pretty obvious that the statues are of Grievous, since in the comic which are flashbacks to him pre-cyborg he has the exact same stances as the statues. One of the Lucasfilm employees even said that the statues seemed pretty intended to be Grievous. Cevan (talk) 03:15, November 9, 2014 (UTC)
If you provide a canon source that says it's Grievous, we can say it's Grievous. Until then, let's move on because this conversation is going around in circles. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 03:49, November 9, 2014 (UTC)
It's confirmed in the respective episode featurette on the DVD/Blu-ray: "The statues also show a progression of Grievous, almost as these Olympian-like statues as he descends further and further into the robotic realm of his body and his build." Grievous' true origins, according to Lucas, are also explained in the featurette. Alexrd (talk) 11:22, November 9, 2014 (UTC)
That seems like some pretty solid confirmation if you ask me; no denying that. We can edit Grievous' page as well for the beginning of his biography section to have a picture or two of the statues of him as a Kaleesh warrior. Cevan (talk) 16:37, November 9, 2014 (UTC)
The featurrette is a pretty solid confirmation I would think...ralok (talk) 14:35, November 9, 2014 (UTC)
The article says that the species walks on their toes instead of their whole feet. But the picture shown shows a character in flat footed boots. Is there a better image that shows what the species feet would look like? Beanlynch (talk) 20:44, January 22, 2019 (UTC)
Darth Maul
I'm probably blind, but I can't spot a single Kaleesh in a Darth Maul comic. Where exactly is he? ShaakTi1138 (talk) 20:47, August 8, 2018 (UTC)
Ok, if anyones interested, Matt Martin confimed that this guy is not a Kaleesh. ShaakTi1138 (talk) 17:40, August 16, 2018 (UTC)
Conflicting sources
It looks like we have another conflict within the canon sources: in TCW Grievous' statues have 4-fingered hands and a digitigrade stance while the Kaleesh represented in the Alien Archive has "normal" legs and a hand with 5 fingers. I asked the Story Group about this, but they didn't respond. Personally I think that the TV series is more important than the reference book, so we should bring the old pictuire back. ShaakTi1138 (talk) 06:06, October 12, 2018 (UTC)
Ironically, Alien Archive does mention the digitigrade stance. --Lelal Mekha(Audience Room) 06:17, October 12, 2018 (UTC)
I'm at loss of words... I don't know, maybe Tim McDonagh was using an old Legends reference picture to create his version, but the authors Katrina Pallant and Nicole Clubb were writing the text with the General's statue in mind. But I guess we'll never know unless someone from the Story Group adresses this. ShaakTi1138 (talk) 06:35, October 12, 2018 (UTC)
I looks like a lot of the illustrations within AA are redrawn from previously-existing images, many of which were produced for Legends sources. The text agrees with the TCW depiction, so that seems to be the more "canon", IMO. - AV-6R7Crew Pit 06:41, October 12, 2018 (UTC)
Now, feet in alien species seem to be a recurring problem. Notice how the Mon Calamari wear human-like boots despite having fins. --Lelal Mekha(Audience Room) 06:56, October 12, 2018 (UTC)
And we have yet another conflict - in Age of Republic - General Grievous 1 general's face seems to be based on the Hasbro figure from Legends, not TCW. Yet another ask sent. ShaakTi1138 (talk) 19:44, March 13, 2019 (UTC)
Grievous?
Is this Kaleesh Grievous?--Calvinfan32 (talk) 14:48, November 17, 2018 (UTC)
The book doesn't say anything about who is it. ShaakTi1138 (talk) 07:54, November 18, 2018 (UTC)
