Vader's saber: dual-phase or not?

Darth Aussie 08:23, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

The Wookiepedia article on dual-phase lightsabers lists Vader's as dual-phase. Vader's blade is visbly longer than Kenobi's during the last parts of the duel (for example, see the shots just before the stormtroopers run over to the duel). Vader's saber has been established as having a blade-length adjustment knob, a feature of dual-phase lightsabers. Vader's saber has been established as having more than just one crystal, again a feature of dual-phase blades.

The evidence would seem to point strongly towards Darth Vader's saber being a dual-phase lightsaber. Therefore, I would submit that the edits that I originally made to the article concernig Vader's saber being dual-phase, which have been revoked, be re-instated.

  • Well, what you need to do, in that case, is find a source which explicitly calls that lightsaber a dual-phase weapon. Saying that it is merely because it looks slightly longer in parts of the film is [research]. Which is why it was removed, and won't be put back in until a source is found that says, essentially, "Darth Vader's saber was dual-phase." It's not in A New Hope, at any rate. Only one lightsaber?

By watching the movie props, I was under the impression Vader had at least two different lightsabers, maybe three. If you look at those pages, you'll see the saber featured in ROTJ[1] has a distinct look, different from the one seen in ANH[2] and ESB.[3] The one in ROTJ looks more like a dark version of Anakin Skywalker's second lightsaber, while the other two are more like Anakin Skywalker's first lightsaber. Any thoughts?LelalMekha 23:31, January 15, 2012 (UTC)

Ive tried to explain this in the behind the scenes section along with the fact that the 'grips' are plastic t track not wiper blades Vaders first 2 in ANH and ESB were basically the same with minor differences but his ROTJ saber was very different i do believe however that this was only because the original was lost and the prop dept' were simply trying to reproduce the original as MPP Flashes are really quite rare i will try to source some pics for this in the future--82.2.28.171 23:03, October 15, 2012 (UTC)
