Size of Vader's Prosthetics
I've noticed that most of the books that describe Darth Vader all say that his limbs were huge, maybe even grossly out of proportions. But all the movies show his limbs as average sized. Explanation please. user:Darth Vatrir

- The novelization of Revenge of the Sith and the novel Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader both describe Vader's limbs being monstrous and ungainly, twice the size of his original limbs. user:Darth Vatrir

- Wrong, the Revenge of the Sith novel blatantly states that his limbs are monstrous and ungainly, and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader says that his hands are at least twice the size of his original, so it would be safe to assume that so are the rest of his limbs. user:Darth Vatrir

- Here is the quote from the novel that supports me: "To some eyes, its jointed limbs might have looked ungainly, even monstrous,.."Notice the emphasise on the limbs. user:Darth Vatrir

- "To some eyes, its jointed limbs might have looked ungainly, even monstrous" - Doesn't sound like a definite, literal statement. To my eyes Vader's limbs look neither ungainly, nor monstrous. They look totaly in proportion with the rest of his body. Without context it's hard to know how to correctly interpret that sentence. HavetStorm 16:22, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Force Powers
What about Force Powers? According to Lumiya a being would lose bits of his or her Force-potential by prosthetic limbs and such, but what about Return of the Jedi? I checked it and Luke uses Force Choke/Grip on a Gamorrean Guard with his right prosthetic hand. Anakin can be seen Choking a Skakoan (The Techno Union guys) in Clone Wars #25 with his prosthetic right arm. Does this mean it just takes more energy/focus to use Force Powers with a prosthetic limb or are Darth Vader and Lumiya two extremes who could not master the full power of the Force because they were 'more machine then man/woman'? - I know what you mean; Lumiya certainly shed some light on this concern. I know Vader had his limbs originally severed, but he stilled mastered Force Choke in A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back quite efficiently. In ESB he even multi-tasked without even gesturing with his hand while giving orders to Admiral Ozzel's "replacement". I think body motion associated with affecting things/beings around you with the Force is for psychological purposes and not required. Darth Caedus slammed someone's head into a table without a gesture, too, and he had all of his limbs. It makes sense that Force powers would be diminished with diminished body mass (losing limbs), but depending upon force-potential, it may not appear to hamper the said force-adept's ability/affinity. Galactic viewpoint
I understand that most deizens of the galaxy didn't like cybernetics, but I don't understand why. I suppose the jedi don't like them, because it may interfere with their connection with the force, but on the whole real life people are more open minded about them then they are in Star Wars. It's just, in a place with crazy advanced robots and vastly superior medicines to ours, why should a fake leg disgust people? 70.179.98.58 01:45, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
