Possible Misinterpretation of Image

AFAIK, the image shown is the only one in which the supposed "forked lightsaber" appears. Is it possible that it's really just another lightsaber that's off in the distance? - 128.12.165.107 20:24, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

No, that how it look from Purge, even from different angles QX100 21:16, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm curious why his finger is inside the extra protrusion, is there a better example? - Unsigned comment by 98.18.132.158 (talk • contribs)

Because it's bad art with bad perspectives. I think you'd be suprised how many big comic book companies release comics with really, really atrocious art. --Luka1184 (talk) 17:06, November 28, 2014 (UTC)

Canon/Legends confusion

Wouldn't it be better to make a canon version of this page? Episode VII is listed on the appearances despite this being a Legends article and EpVII being part of the new canon. Can someone possible fix this? (IDK how) DarthShaymin14 (talk) 19:38, November 28, 2014 (UTC)

Not permissible under policy, we have nothing official from canon that refers to it as a "crossguard lightsaber." That's why the one that was created before was deleted. Please see Wookieepedia:Notability policy. ProfessorTofty (talk) 19:39, November 28, 2014 (UTC)
Surely there is some policy about sensibility. The Ep.VII lightsaber obviously has "crossguards" and it's pretty obvious it fits that name better then the images in the article. 24.79.32.243 21:01, November 28, 2014 (UTC)
There is no such policy. The policy is that if it hasn't been given an official name and what it was called in Legends did have an official name, then it doesn't get its own article. If you feel that policy shouldn't be as it is, you're welcome to debate it, but you have to have a registered account and you have to have enough edits to meet the site's voting policy. Also, I think you may be confused regarding Canon and Legends. The images in the article you refer to are only from Legends material, material from canon could never be placed in that article. "The crossguard lightsaber was essentially a regular lightsaber with a second blade emitter protruding near the first one at a 45-degree angle to the axis of the hilt."

45 degrees? The "cross guard" appears to be at a right angle (90 degrees), not at 45 degrees.

The crossguard on the film trailer is at 90 degrees, though the crossguards in the images from the comic on this page are clearly 45 degrees Sheridan (talk) 09:24, November 29, 2014 (UTC)

Episode VII Lightsaber in SWTOR

I was playing Star Wars The Old Republic yesterday, and I found something interesting. In the 4.5 Update, they added a crossguard lightsaber (that you can get from the Revenge Cartel Pack, I believe) that has a similar design to crossguard lightsaber seen in The Force Awakens. So, my question is should this be treated as Legends or Non-Canon? PS Sorry if I did something wrong, this is the first time I write on a talk page. Andi322 (talk) 20:13, June 8, 2016 (UTC)

  • Good question! Since it's in The Old Republic, it would be treated as Legends. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:18, June 8, 2016 (UTC)

Impracticality of design

I think it's worth mentioning how easy it would be for an opponent wielding a lightsabre to cut off the crossguard projectors since they protrude too far from the hilt for the angle and distance of where the two plasma blades are emitted from, to catch an opponent's lightsabre's plasma blade, unless of course they were constructed of a lightsabre resistant material such as beskar. Source for the crossguard being preferred by Makashi users?

Is there any book, game or graphic novel referencing a Makashi user having a crossguard? I believe the concept of a crossguard contrasts the basic principles of Form II. A Makashi practitioner is essentially a fencer, typically preferring a curved hilt and one-handed grip, keeping the opponent at a distance. A crossguard in turn serves the purpose of catching the blade and countering blows, which to me seems more in line with Form V and requiring a two-handed grip. Adding to this, Form V is highly similar to HEMA, which sees prominent use of crossguards. I guess the most prominent user of a crossguard lightsaber would be Ben Solo and his style is very far from the display of Makashi of Count Dooku. • According to the article, that information was in Endless Vigil. I can't check at the moment, but whether or not it makes sense, if the source says that it was used by Makashi users, we can't decide that it wasn't. VergenceScatter (talk) 16:08, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
