Bordok and Marauder's Horses
I've just read in this article that Bordoks and Marauder's Horses are the same species, but are just depicted differentely in TV series and TV movies.
But in the same time, in "The Wildlife of Star Wars" (page 143) it's clearly seen that Bordoks are a different species than the horses and ponies who are "Equus". And the illustration is made in a realistic style.
So, what's the official version? —Kaal-Jhyy (talk)

- Looks like we need to split off a new article for equus, the apparent in-universe name for horse and pony. Someone with "The Wildlife of Star Wars" could do that, maybe? —Silly Dan (talk) 22:33, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- I have "The Wildlife of Star Wars", and there are no more infos about equus than this little article I've scanned. So, if anyone could find more infos about equus, it could help! ;) —Kaal-Jhyy (talk) 11 March 2006
- I to also have the Wildlife book (as you can tell I have written probaly 60 articles from it listed on my bio) and I think we should put the info. from the book into the article Ewok Poney because if you go to the article The Wildlife of Star Wars listed under the planet Endor Ewok Poney is listed there without any info. Someone just leave me something about this on my talk page. Mike Kazz 11:57pm, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- Endorian horses are definitely different from bordoks. Despite some similarities, bordoks are NOT horses.
There are two species of bordok, the greater bordok and lesser bordok. Bordoks have numerous differences from horses, especially the horns and hooves. The Ewokese word for horse is pulga acc to the Ewoks movies. On SW.com, Jocasta Nu had a little bit of info about equus, and revealed the Ewok word for pony is "gaupa." Gaupas are referred to as "Endorian ponies" in Jedi Search.
Note that most of the Ewoks in Caravan of Courage rode gaupas, but Cindel and Wicket rode in a kid-carrying basket on a pulga.
Charal and the Marauders rode horses in The Battle for Endor.

Note that in The Battle for Endor, Charal rides a black horse. Acc to Wildlife of Star Wars, black horses are common on Dathomir. This indicates Charal brought her steed from Dathomir on Terak's stolen starships.
Is it possible the Marauders' horses were also brought on their ship? Since the Marauders and Charal crashed some 100 BBY on Endor, it is possible all the horses and ponies seen on Endor, including those used by the Ewoks, are descended from stock brought to the mooon by the Marauders or other crash victims (we know Endor has a lot).
Also note that in Caravan of Courage, Wicket shows Cindel Towani a Ewok-made statue of what he calls a "pulga" and what Cindel calls a "horse." This indicates two things: 1) "horse" is a word used in Basic, more vernacular than the technical "equus" 2) Cindel Towani was familiar with horses BEFORE she came to Endor, indicating they are used on some planet in the civilized Galactic Empire, perhaps the Towanis' as yet unnamed homeworld.
There are two species of bordoks: the lesser bordok and greater bordok. For a size comparison, see the picture in original Alien Anthology. Both species are semi-sentient. The best-known bordok is Boga, a baby bordok belonging to Princess Kneesaa. I'm *pretty sure* Boga is a lesser bordok, as are those in the WOSW pic. I think the greater bordoks are meant to be some of the bordoks seen in the Ewoks cartoons; they, even their babies, looked far different from Boga, with long, shaggy, grey hair and much longer horns. However, the Alien Anthology pic has both species looking like Boga, one just larger, but that book is known for artistic inaccuracy (ie, Yevethan book) and we may take it simply as artistic differentiation. However, in the comics Boga looked shaggier, but was still brown.
In summary, the horse homeworld is unknown. They are widespread in many worlds both civilized and uncivilized, including the forest moon of Endor and Dathomir; possibly also Sanyassa IV and the Towanis' homeworld.
Many animals in the SW galaxy also bear an artificial similarity to horses, yet are not akin per se. These include the four-eared equinoids of Cleroff's World (from Marvel 101), the greater and lesser bordoks (from the Ewoks cartoons and comics, Alien Anthology, and WOSW), and the guarlaras, gualaars, and gualamas of Naboo (from TPM, ROTS, WOSW, Galactic Battlegrounds, and An Empire Divided).
Hope that helps. —Unsigned comment by JustinGann (talk • contribs)
