"Did they leave just the dumb Jedi behind? Or are they all that useless?"
―Rede[1]

Rede, designated TK-70558, was a clone commando created in Spaarti cloning cylinders on Centax-2 around 20 BBY. He was created from second-generation clone material, and was grown in the span of just one year. A year later, after the end of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Galactic Empire, Rede became a clone stormtrooper, and was appointed to the 501st Legion's Imperial Commando Special Unit, under the command of Roly Melusar. He was assigned to Squad 40 along with clone commandos Darman Skirata, RC-1309, nicknamed "Niner", and IC-4447, nicknamed "Ennen", after Ennen's squadmate Bry's death during a mission to the planet of Celen.

Later, Rede and his squadmates were tasked to kill a Jedi who had been cornered on Coruscant. After Ennen killed the man, it was revealed that their target was not a Jedi at all; rather a thief who had possession of a lightsaber, and after this incident, Ennen committed suicide. Darman, Niner and Rede were soon sent to the Coth Fuuras space station to kill Jedi Knight Borik Yelgo. After separating the Jedi from the civilians, the commandos engaged him in combat. Rede got in close quarters to the Jedi and managed to kill him. After the fight Darman said never to tease him again. During his time with Squad 40, Rede attempted to learn Mando'a to keep up with Darman and Niner's "slang".

Biogragphy

Born in 20 BBY, Rede was grown to adulthood on Centax-2 within a single standard year, one of the newly produced Spaarti clones engineered to mature from infancy into a fully grown soldier in just twelve months. As a result of this accelerated growth, several members of Squad 40 initially regarded him with suspicion and prejudice, some of which stemmed from legitimate concerns. Although Rede underwent rapid instruction in languages, combat doctrine, and tactical procedures, his training was incomplete in certain practical areas; notably, he initially lacked familiarity with the heads-up display systems of Katarn-class commando armor. While he adapted quickly, his early struggles made him a target of disdain among his squadmates.[1]

In 19 BBY, during the final year of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Republic fell and was replaced by the First Galactic Empire, with the Jedi Order declared traitorous by Emperor Palpatine. Rede and the other clone troopers were subsequently reorganized as Imperial Stormtroopers. He was assigned to the 501st Legion’s Imperial Commando Special Unit under the command of Roly Melusar. Rede first distinguished himself during a mission to eliminate the Jedi Borik Yelgo aboard the space station Coth Fuuras near Coruscant. During the operation, he demonstrated exceptional speed and lethality, outperforming Darman, Niner, and Ennen by swiftly killing the Jedi. This success significantly improved his standing within the squad. Upon returning to the Imperial barracks and reporting to Melusar, Rede was dispatched on an intelligence assignment to gather data on beskar mining rights on Mandalore. Unbeknownst to him, this mission was a deliberate ruse devised by Melusar in order to separate him from the others; meanwhile, Niner and Darman were covertly assigned to shadow the Jedi Djinn Altis and gather intelligence on him without additional support.[1]

Personality

Rede was generally reserved and task-focused in his interactions with other clone troopers. As a Spaarti-grown clone with an accelerated development cycle, he displayed a strong emphasis on discipline, efficiency, and adherence to orders rather than unit socialization. During his early service with Squad 40, he spoke infrequently and did not actively engage in the informal bonding common among clone commandos. Rede demonstrated a high degree of adaptability in operational environments. Although he initially lacked familiarity with certain equipment systems, such as the heads-up display of Katarn-class commando armor, he corrected these shortcomings rapidly in the field. He did not openly respond to criticism or derision from his squadmates, instead maintaining a professional demeanor.[1]

In combat situations, Rede was decisive and direct. He followed mission objectives precisely and showed no recorded hesitation when engaging hostile targets, including Jedi. His actions during the elimination of Borik Yelgo reflected a preference for swift resolution of objectives over prolonged engagement. After this operation, his reliability and effectiveness were more widely acknowledged by his unit. Following the transition from the Galactic Republic to the First Galactic Empire, Rede adjusted to the stormtrooper command structure without incident. There is no evidence that he expressed ideological commitment to the Empire or opposition to it; his conduct suggests loyalty rooted in military hierarchy and compliance with orders rather than political conviction.[1]
