"I've had enough."
―TK-293, after working days of fourteen-hour shifts[2]

TK-293 was a stormtrooper who served onboard the Death Star II in the year 4 ABY.

Biography

"It was not even our fault. Why do they always blame us somehow?"
―TK-293 complains after an unjust reprimand[2]

TK-293 was a[2] human[1] who served the Galactic Empire as a stormtrooper. In 4 ABY, he was stationed onboard the battle station Death Star II. His bunkmate was the stormtrooper TK-423. At one point, when the astromech droid R2-Q9 began routinely picking on TK-423, locking him out of his room or running over his feet on purpose, TK-293 agreed to switch uniforms with TK-423 in hopes of thwarting R2-Q9's antics. However, the droid was still able to single out TK-423.[2]

Among their duties was receiving Imperial higher-ups by assembling in landing bays 1-12. After their fellow soldier TK-534 passed out several times due to standing on duty for hours at a time without food or water, TK-293's fellow troopers began a betting pool, although TK-293 did not participate due to the fact that he thought TK-534 would pass out every time, meaning there were no stakes.[2]

After someone accidentally sent out all of the security codes to the all-personnel daily dispatch, TK-293 and the other stormtroopers were assembled to make sure the codes were deleted from their datapads. In the meantime, they scolded the troopers for indiscipline and lack of work ethic, causing TK-293 to be in a sour mood.[2]

When the troopers received Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod, a betting pool card with potential utterances was prepared. TK-293's card included "namedropping," which was checked off when the Sith Lord Darth Vader threatened Jerjerrod with the Emperor's presence. When Emperor Palpatine eventually arrived, TK-293 was excited to see his shuttle, although he was disappointed when it was only a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. TK-293 declared that if he was the Emperor, he would always travel in a Delta-class shuttle. The troopers, including TK-293, stood in Hangar 272 as the Emperor arrived, though they were near the back of the ranks and were too far away to even hear the Emperor's voice.[2]

When their shifts were escalated to fourteen hours with less breaks, TK-293 declared that he had had enough, and fellow trooper TK-848 decided that it was time for revolution. However, their plans were interrupted when the Rebel Alliance attacked the Death Star II. TK-293 was deployed to the forest moon of Endor to combat the rebel forces there. He later received a message from TK-423, saying that he had crashed on the moon in an escape pod and needed a pickup. TK-293 told him that he would come and get him.[2]

Personality and traits

TK-293 was a cautious individual, hoping to avoid conflict with any superiors and trying to help TK-423 do the same. He warned his bunkmate against stay away from disagreeable people and also warned TK-848 to not mention unionizing around any of their superiors.[2]

Behind the scenes

TK-293 appeared in "Trooper Trouble," a story written by Laura Pohl and included in the 2023 anthology From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi.[2]
