Syntherope was a type of rope with durasteel-level tensile strength and a memory structure. In 132 BBY during the High Republic Era, the Sith assassin Mae-ho Aniseya brought a coil of syntherope with her to the planet Khofar and used it to set a snare for her companion "Qimir."
Description
Syntherope was a type of ribbed rope made from synthetic fibers with a tensile strength equivelant to that of durasteel. It had a memory structure that aided in consistent coiling.[1]
History
During the High Republic Era, the Sith assassin Mae-ho Aniseya carried a fifteen meter (forty-nine feet) coil of brown syntherope that she could use to rig snares for catching prey.[1] In 132 BBY,[3] she brought it with her to[4] the planet Khofar[1] while hunting the Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca there as part of a quest set by her Sith Master. After landing with her companion "Qimir," who claimed to serve the same master, Aniseya stowed the syntherope in[4] a supply bag[1] and began trekking through forest toward Kelnacca's shelter.[4]
Mae-ho Aniseya used syntherope to snare "Qimir" on Khofar.
During the journey, Aniseya realized that she no longer wished to kill the Wookiee or serve her master. Planning to instead surrender herself to the Jedi, she waited till Qimir left her in search of water and then set a snare up for him using the syntherope. Screaming to lure him back, Aniseya successfully trapped him in the syntherope snare and left him hanging upside down by his foot from a tree. Qimir, however, in truth was her master and freed himself from the syntherope to kill Kelnacca himself.[4]
During the Imperial Era, the crime lord Dryden Vos owned a white decorative belt that was made from a coil of syntherope and doubled as a garrote.[2] In 10 BBY,[5] Vos wore the belt on board his yacht First Light while it was on the planet Savareen for a meeting with the criminals Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Qi'ra. When the meeting escalated into a fight, Vos was killed.[6]
