"And who is Lekar Hablis?"
"The nine-time Devaronian swoopdueling champion."
"I never knew you were a fan."
"I'm not. I overheard an overexcited Ugnaught working up the courage to ask for an autograph."
―Qui-Gon Jinn and Dooku[1]

Swoopdueling was a sport practiced in the galaxy. Lekar Hablis was the nine-time champion of Devaronian swoopdueling, a variant of the sport.[1] Between 68 BBY and 42 BBY,[2] Jedi Master Dooku was present at the forty-eighth annual Dragonfire Air Rally on the planet Coruscant. When disturbed by Divad Masspur, Dooku used the presence of Hablis at the event to make Masspur go away. Dooku's Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, was surprised that his Master was interested in swoopdueling, but Dooku replied that he had only previously heard a Ugnaught asking Hablis an autograph.[1]

Behind the scenes

Swoopdueling was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon by a flashback sequence in the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, written by Cavan Scott[1] and published on April 30, 2019.[3] The spelling of swoopdueling was confirmed by the audio drama's script release[4] on October 1 of the same year.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, swoopdueling was first mentioned by Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Dueling Ambitions, the twelfth story-arc in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series of comics, authored by John Jackson Miller.[5]
