A BTL-S8 K-wing assault starfighter using advanced SLAM propulsion
The SubLight Acceleration Motor, abbreviated to SLAM, was an overdrive system that allowed the Missile Boat to double its sublight speed.
By drawing energy from the missile boat's laser cannon reserves, SLAM provided a burst of acceleration from the ion engines to enhance the Missile Boat's combat capabilities. SLAM allowed a Missile Boat to unleash its massive warhead load against a capital ship, and then flee any enemy starfighters or anti-starfighter concussion missiles.
A similar system was later used on the New Republic's K-wing assault starfighter.
