A stun gun was a small handheld[1] personal defense stun blaster[3] that only fired incapacitating stun bolts. Stun guns were quieter than normal blasters, and were used by commandos, spies, and agents during covert missions.[4] Several planets maintained a ban on lethal weapons, but allowed individuals to carry stun guns in their stead.[2]
