"We've been over this before, Omega. Personal items are forbidden."
―Emerie Karr, to Omega[2]

A straw tooka[1] was a type of tooka doll made of straw. During her imprisonment at the Galactic Empire's Tantiss Base[2] around 18 BBY,[3] the young clone Omega stole straw from the base's lurca kennels to make herself a straw tooka,[2] seeking comfort in the familiar doll.[1] Omega was used to having the tooka doll Lula when she was with her squad, the Bad Batch.[4] She held the doll while she slept, dreaming of escaping.[1] The doll was one of her only possessions, which she kept hidden, as personal items were forbidden. Later, the straw tooka was discovered and confiscated from Omega's room during an inspection, which saddened her. That night, as Omega sulked, Doctor Emerie Karr returned the straw tooka despite regulations.[2] Omega eventually escaped the base, leaving behind her straw tooka.[5] However, Karr,[6] who saved the doll even after Omega's departure,[5] gave it to another young prisoner, the Iktotchi girl Eva, in an attempt to comfort[6] her.[7]

Behind the scenes

The straw tooka first appeared in the Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode "Confined,"[2] released on February 21, 2024,[8] before being identified in its Databank entry on StarWars.com.[1] Its appearance was first hinted at in a post by Kiner Music[9] as part of a series of cryptic tweets that hint at upcoming The Bad Batch episodes.[10] Concept art of the straw tooka was done by Lucasfilm Animation artist Vivian Ly.[11]

  3. Per the reasoning here, Season 2 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch takes place around 18 BBY. The tally marks made by Omega in The Bad Batch Season 3's first episode, "Confined," indicate the episode must take place at least twenty-one standard days following her capture as depicted in the Season 2 episode "Plan 99." According to StarWars.com "Confined" Trivia Guide | Star Wars The Bad Batch on StarWars.com (backup link), Omega spends about 164 further days in captivity by the end of "Confined." As such, the events of Season 3 must begin around 18 BBY.
