- "Storykeepers hold all of our greatest legends—both true and made up and sometimes a little bit of each. And they often craft their own—again, both true and made up."
- ―Logray, to Nanta
Storykeeper was a title given to members of the Ewok Bright Tree tribe to denote their authority and expertise in recording all of the tribe's stories and legends whether real or fictitious. It was awarded by the Council of Elders but was not as official a title as chief or shaman and the tribe was not required to have one at all times. Nanta was an Ewok who aspired to become a Storykeeper and recorded many stories on a tree in the tribe's village, but Nanta died in the Battle of Endor before he could be officially given the title.[1]
Behind the scenes
The title of Storykeeper was mentioned in the 2023 short story "The Ballad of Nanta," written by Sarah Kuhn and published in the anthology From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi.[1]
