- "On Stensen's Colony there are Ghothian slime pools which display a greater degree of intelligence than you did when you initiated this project."
- ―Hyndis Kogler's message to Doctor Tobias
Stensen's Colony was a terrestrial celestial body[3] situated in the Stensen's Colony system, a part of the Stensen sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[1] Ghothian slime pools,[3] which originated in[4] the sector's Ghothia system,[5] could be found there.[3]
At some point by the time shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Hyndis Kogler, an officer of the Galactic Empire's Intelligence service, sent a message to their fellow Intelligence member Doctor Tobias. Extremely upset with a recent initiative by Tobias, in the message Kogler claimed that some Ghothian slime pools on Stensen's Colony exhibited a "greater degree of intelligence" than Tobias did when coming up with their plan. Imperial Intelligence later included the message in a report prepared for an Imperial Grand Moff, which in turn was added by Rebel Alliance historian Major Arhul Hextrophon to a compilation of Imperial documents for Alliance Supreme Commander Mon Mothma and other Rebel officers.[3]
Behind the scenes
Stensen's Colony was introduced in the Imperial Sourcebook.
Stensen's Colony was first mentioned in the 1989 Imperial Sourcebook, written by Greg Gorden for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[6] "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game source article published in the thirteenth issue of the Voyages SF magazine, placed Stensen's Colony—misspelled as "Stenson's Colony"—in the Mortex sector. Since that article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process, its canonicity within the Star Wars Legends continuity was never confirmed.[7] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Stensen's Colony system, and therefore Stensen's Colony, in grid square I-16,[2] and the StarWars.com Online Companion to the book later overrode the Voyages SF 13 placement by instead establishing that the system was located in the Stensen sector.[1]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas, stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Ghothian slime pools in relation to the Ghothia system.
