"On Stensen's Colony there are Ghothian slime pools which display a greater degree of intelligence than you did when you initiated this project."
―Hyndis Kogler's message to Doctor Tobias[1]

A Ghothian slime pool was a natural formation that hailed from the Outer Rim Territories' Ghothia system. In a message sent by the time shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Imperial Intelligence officer Hyndis Kogler, who was highly displeased with an initiative undertaken by their Intelligence colleague Doctor Tobias, compared unfavorably the latter's intelligence, as displayed by the initiative, to that of some Ghothian slime pools on the celestial body Stensen's Colony.

Description

A Ghothian slime pool was a slime-related natural formation[1] that originated in[2] the Ghothia system of the Outer Rim Territories' Stensen sector.[3] Ghothian slime pools could be found on Stensen's Colony, a celestial body[1] in the Stensen sector's Stensen's Colony system.[3]

History

At some point by the time shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Hyndis Kogler, an officer of the Infiltration branch of the Galactic Empire's Intelligence service, sent a message to Doctor Tobias, a member of the service's Tech branch. Kogler was extremely upset with Tobias' ill-considered plan of sending out several modified 3PO-series protocol droids in an attempt to infiltrate Rebel Alliance facilities, and in the message the officer claimed that some Ghothian slime pools on Stensen's Colony exhibited a "greater degree of intelligence" than Tobias did when coming up with the idea. Imperial Intelligence later included the message in a report prepared for an Imperial Grand Moff, which in turn was added by Alliance historian Major Arhul Hextrophon to a compilation of Imperial documents for Alliance Supreme Commander Mon Mothma and other Rebel officers.[1]

Behind the scenes

Ghothian slime pools—spelled as "Ghothian Slime pools"—were first mentioned in the 1989 Imperial Sourcebook, written by Greg Gorden for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[4] Their name was subsequently spelled as "Ghothian slime pools" in the 1994 Second Edition of the book.[1]
