Spider-sponges,[2] also written as spider sponges, were a type of flora native to the planet Geonosis.[1] Nests of spider-sponges lived in the air vent tunnel between the power generator hub and the fusion reactor in the Geonosian droid factories[2] in 22 BBY.[3] The creatures survived on the toxic waste gases produced by the factory.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the new Star Wars canon, spider-sponges were mentioned in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations. The material mentioning spider-sponges was reprinted[2] from the 2003 Star Wars Legends reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, which was written by Simon Beecroft and Curtis Saxton and marked the first mention of the creatures.[4]
