The Son of Suns was a small spaceship, a flying antique during the age of the Galactic Empire.[2]

Measuring around 20 meters long, the ship had a fast Class 1 hyperdrive, but a modest realspace speed, and a painfully slow backup hyperdrive; much of the interior was occupied by the propulsion systems, leaving room for ten metric tonnes of cargo, and five tightly-packed passengers, as well as a crew of two.[2]

Armament was limited to a retractable missile launcher beneath the hull, and by 0 ABY only a single missile remained on board. There was no navacomp, and the hull was visibly rusting.[2]

After the destruction of Alderaan, the ship was used to evacuate Jennie Pickalho from Coruscant, under the cover of the Heroic Race to Steplim XI. To ready the old ship for its escape, it was upgraded by augmenting the armament with a pair of forward-firing blasters, installing a navacomp, and increasing the performance of its backup hyperdrive from Class 15 to Class 12.[2]

During the ceremonial start of the race over Imperial City, Jennie attempted to lock herself in the cockpit and crash the ship into the Imperial Palace to assassinate Palpatine. The attempt was prevented, the ship's erratic manoeuvres were attributed to a malfunction, and it departed Coruscant succesfully.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Son of Suns appears in Il faut sauver Miss Pickalho, a French-language scenario for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game which appeared in Casus Belli magazine in March 1999. As Casus Belli material does not seem to have been approved through the Lucas Licensing process, it is thus considered non-canon by Lucasfilm.

The ship's name is a reference to a phrase which was used in early drafts of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In the original French-language text, it is Fils des Soleils.

The scenario also features a Bantha of the same name.
