Skettos were medium-sized, blood-sucking flying reptiles that dwelled in the caverns of Tatooine. Only emerging at daybreak and twilight, they possessed many rods in their eyes to assist their vision in low-light conditions as they ate airborne insects. Though reptilian, they were warm-blooded and gave birth to a single offspring at a time.^[2]

Skettos would often gather loose bantha wool for nests.

Sketto tended to swarm with others of their kind to suck the blood of sleeping larger animals. Their large teeth helped to puncture tough hides, and legend had it that a sketto swarm could suck a sleeping dewback dry overnight.^[2] They bled green blood.

In 32 BBY, during the Boonta Eve Classic podrace a group of skettos that inhabited a cave, fled from one of the cave exits to escape an explosion caused by the podracer Ratts Tyerell crashing his Podracer into a pillar of stone.^[3]
