Shukut was a planet in the Outer Rim Territories' Mandalore sector. Located within the Mandalore system, Shukut occupied the eighth orbit around the system's star, Mandalore, between the orbits of Bonagal and Werda. A gas giant, Shukut was surrounded by a total of thirty moons.[1]
After the Taung forces of Mandalore the First journeyed from Roon to conquer the uninhabited planet that became Mandalore,[1] the newly renamed Mandalorians spread out to conquer the worlds of the surrounding system,[3] including Shukut.[1]
Behind the scenes
Shukut was first introduced into Star Wars canon in the 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas, written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry.[1] The origins of the planet's name would appear to lie in the Mandalorian language of Mando'a, created by author Karen Traviss. Shukut is similar to the word shukalar, meaning "to crush,"[4] likely in reference the powerful gravitational forces possessed by gas giant-type planets.
