Shilian lampreys were a type of creature capable of firmly latching onto surfaces[1] that partially shared their name with the planet Shili.[2] In 230 BBY,[3] the pilot Leox Gyasi used magnetic clamp gloves to open a hangar bay door on the Starlight Beacon space station. His colleague—the pilot Affie Hollow—worried about him, but reassured herself that the man's gloves would keep him tethered to the station like a Shilian lamprey.[1]

Shilian lampreys were mentioned in the 2022 novel The High Republic: The Fallen Star, written by Claudia Gray[1] for the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I.[4]
