Sheriff was a police rank for a chief police officer of a certain area, usually a city.

History

Encot served as the sheriff of Anchorhead during the Cold War and was in charge of the Citizens' Militia.[2]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Corellian settlers of a certain planet of the Outer Rim Territories were protected by a sheriff. When he was killed, the settlers found nobody to replace him, although Chewbacca briefly assumed that role. In that Corellian community, the sheriff wore a wide-brimmed hat and a poncho adorned with a star-shaped badge. The sheriff was tasked with protecting the community as well as managing the jailhouse.[1]
