Shang stew was a type of stew that had a recipe.[1] In 0 BBY,[2] while talking with the farmboy Luke Skywalker in his hut on the planet Tatooine, the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi mentioned that he fought in the Clone Wars. To Skywalker, the way Kenobi mentioned his involvement was as if he was casually speaking about the recipe for shang stew.[1]

Shang stew was mentioned in Alan Dean Foster's 1976 novelization of[1] the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[3]
