- "Your own mother never intended the Nihil to sit idle for this long. She created them as a weapon."
- ―Asgar Ro, to Shalla Ro
An Evereni female individual lived during the High Republic Era. At one point, she created the pirate organization known as the Nihil,[1] which had been originally founded by the Evereni Marda Ro,[2] to be used as a weapon against the Jedi Order. Years before[1] 252 BBY,[3] she had a daughter[1]—Shalla Ro[4]—who was Marda's granddaughter.[5] By 252 BBY,[3] Shalla had become the Nihil's leader and preferred to grow the organization in secret until the time to strike against the Jedi was right.[1]
That year,[3] Shalla clashed with her son[1] Asgar Ro[4] about their plans for the Nihil while aboard their[1] flagship[2] Gaze Electric. During their argument, Asgar stated that Shalla's mother had not intended for the Nihil to sit idle for so long as they had been created as a weapon, to which Shalla countered that they needed to bide their time until it was the right time to strike. Asgar ultimately killed his mother during the argument and took over the Nihil.[1]
Behind the scenes
Shalla Ro's mother was first mentioned in flashbacks in the first issue of the 2022 comic miniseries Star Wars: The High Republic: Eye of the Storm released as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I. The issue was written by Charles Soule and published by Marvel Comics on January 12, 2022.[6] The 2024 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy incorrectly states that Marda Ro is Shalla's mother.[7]
