- "Instruct the Constrainer and Sentinel to secure from entrapment duty and return to their positions in the demarcation line."
- ―Grand Admiral Thrawn issues orders to the Sentinel during the Battle of Bilbringi
The Sentinel was an Interdictor cruiser serving the Galactic Empire's Imperial Navy during Grand Admiral Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic in 9 ABY. During the Battle of Bilbringi, the Sentinel, together with a set of other Interdictor cruisers that included the Constrainer, were positioned to intercept the incoming New Republic flotilla for the rest of the Imperial units to assault them. After the Interdictors pulled the New Republic forces out of hyperspace, Thrawn instructed the Constrainer and the Sentinel to return to the Imperial line of battle. The engagement eventually ended with the death of Thrawn carried out by his bodyguard, Rukh, and an Imperial retreat.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Sentinel first appeared in the 1991 novel The Last Command, the closing installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy. The Last Command refers to the Sentinel as an "Interdictor Cruiser,"[2] which are variably depicted in Dark Force Rising and The Last Command comics as either Immobilizer 418 cruisers, such as the Constrainer,[3][4] or Interdictor-class Star Destroyers.[5] In the 2006 strategy game Star Wars: Empire at War, Sentinel is a possible name assigned by the game to Immobilizer 418 cruisers constructed by the Imperial player.[1]
