- "SID needs to be field tested. I need real-time data of how it performs in a live fire scenario, so I can keep fine-tuning."
"Sid?"
"Self-integrated Defense' unit. SID for short." - ―Droidsmith to Kay Vess
Self-integrated Defense' unit or SID for short was a prototype design for a combat droid developed for the criminal Hutt Cartel during the reign of the Galactic Empire.
Biography
By 3 ABY,[1] a human droidsmith began working on a prototype design for a combat droid for the criminal Hutt Cartel. They designated the droid as Self-integrated Defense' unit or SID for short.[2] That year,[1] the droidsmith performed tests on SID from a camp near the Hutt Cartel's poaching station in the Hunter's Canopy region of the Outer Rim jungle Akiva. During that time, they began looking for a volunteer to fight against SID so they could gather live‐fire combat data.[2]
A Quarren in Myrra, Akiva's capital city, shared the droidsmith's request for a volunteer with the scoundrel Kay Vess[2] in 3 ABY.[1] Vess later traveled to the poaching station where she learned about SID and agreeing to fight the droid. After Vess picked the difficult SID would operate at Vess then proceeded to fight and ultimately destroy SID. The droidsmith was excited when Vess returned, stating the data they captured during the test was perfect to help them improve SID's targeting and response times. They concluded by asking Vess for any additional feedback on the droid's performance.[2]
Characteristics
SID had green colored plating and yellow photoreceptors. It had three different combat difficult settings that could be configured before a fight.[2]
Equipment
The droid used a TL-50 Heavy Repeater in 3 ABY.[2]
Behind the scenes
SID appeared in the 2024 video game, Star Wars Outlaws developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. In the game, SID was part of the optional "User Testing" intel quest.[2]
