Security sweepers were devices used by government officials and military personnel to guard against espionage. They had been designed to detect hidden recorders and listening devices by identifying specialized electronic components, while ignoring common tools like holocams or datapads. Although sweepers had accurately pinpointed the location of surveillance equipment, they typically were not able to determine the precise function of the detected devices.[1]

Security sweepers were mentioned in Desperate Allies, a roleplaying supplementary sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying series that was published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2015.[1]
