A Sector Group was a formation of Imperial Military and intelligence assets of the Galactic Empire in a sector of the galaxy. Each Moff was in command of their Sector Group.[1] Twenty-four Imperial-class Star Destroyers were assigned to each of the regional 1,024 sectors[2] that were in the Imperial sphere,[3] operating as sector fleets. The Lothal sector fleet and the Anoat sector fleet are two examples of Sector Group's fleets. These forces allowed the Empire to spread across star systems to patrol and uphold the will of the Galactic Emperor.[2] As the threat of the Alliance to Restore the Republic grew, the Star Destroyers became the primary method of enforcing the Emperor's will.[4]
Behind the scenes
Sector Groups were introduced into the current Star Wars canon through the "Starship Fact File" section of the twentieth issue of the De Agostini magazine Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon,[2] which was published around May 10, 2015,[5] and written by Mark Newbold.[6] Sector Groups also existed in the Star Wars Legends continuity, being first mentioned in the 1989 Imperial Sourcebook, which was authored by Greg Gorden and published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[7]
