The Second Spire was an old temple,[3] and arrowhead of stonework that was associated with a particular faith that[2] by 1 BBY,[1] was all but forgotten. It was one of the tallest structures in Holy City, and was still a third of the height of Temple of the Kyber.[2] By 382 BBY,[4] the spire had been abandoned, but was refitted for the intended signing of a treaty between delegates from the warring planets Eiram and E'ronoh.[3] During this time, Jedi Master Leebon was required to skip a meeting of the Convocation of the Force as she was needed at the spire.[5]
However, the Second Spire was later bombed during the peace summit by members of the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door, a dark side group working with the Path of the Open Hand cult and Graf family pariah Tilson Graf. The summit's mediator, Morton San Tekka, was killed in the attack, and the summit was rescheduled with Graf as a new mediator. However, a riot was incited by Path leader Werth Plouth in the Square of the Supplicants during the summit. At the same time that rioters reached the Spire, a member of the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door broke in and assassinated E'roni ambassador Tintak. This all caused the forces of Eiram and E'ronoh in the Spire to begin attacking each other, starting the Battle of Jedha.[3]
By 1 BBY,[1] the Second Spire, along with the First Spire, had been closed and sealed off by the Galactic Empire, and far fewer pilgrims made attempts to visit the spire compared with the Temple of the Kyber.[2]
