- "The shadowy tentacles of the Acolytes of the Beyond never leave a job unfinished."
"What? Another Acolyte of the Beyond?"
"We are the dagger tucked behind our leader's back. We are the poison in your cup. We are everywhere. The governor sends his regards." - ―Saycos Hawn and Bastion.
Saycos Hawn was a Dowutin who was a member of the Acolytes of the Beyond. In 5 ABY, Hawn attempted to assassinate General Leia Organa on the planet Chandrila under the order of Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard.
Biography
In 5 ABY,[2] he travelled to the planet Chandrila, where he attempted to assassinate Senator Leia Organa at the behest of the rogue Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard. Approaching his target while she and Chancellor Mon Mothma were discussing the damage[1] wrought from a recent terrorist attack that the Acolytes had staged in Hanna City,[3] Hawn was noticed by Agent Bastion and revealed his presence, declaring that the members of his organization never abandoned a task that had been set to them. Briefly boasting over the widespread nature of the Sith cult, after he declared that Governor Adelhard sent his regards, the Dowutin opened fire on the three individuals using a TL-50 Heavy Repeater, but was swiftly disarmed by Leia, who answered his attack with a retaliatory shot to his shoulder, forcing Saycos to drop his own weapon. When held at blasterpoint, the failed assassin attempted to strangle Organa with his bare hands, but was swiftly incapacitated by her husband, Han Solo, then taken into New Republic custody, where he refused to disclose any information besides that which only served to confirm recent intel concerning the movements of Adelhard and his coalition.[1]
While imprisoned, Saycos Hawn was visited by Leia Organa and, following a brief exchange, lamented that the Force had failed him, although his target disputed this opinion, telling the cultist that he was only clinging to a warped devotion for a time that never existed. In response, however, the Dowutin prisoner asserted that the princess underestimated the forces assembled with the Anoat sector at her own peril, claiming that the coalition formed behind Ubrik Adelhard would be her undoing. Although Organa rebuked this statement, asserting that the Moff did not stand a chance against either the New Republic or the Imperial Military, her assailant assured her that the splinter faction and its allies merely need to seize an opportunity to tip the scales, revealing that they intended to make their move during the impending conflict at Jakku, where the Galactic Empire was mustering to make a final stand.[1]
Personality and traits
Saycos Hawn was a Dowutin with light brown skin and white eyes with black sclera. A member of the Acolytes of the Beyond that tried to assassinate the pregnant Leia Organa, he claimed that the Sith cult never left their objectives incomplete, remaining adamant in the efforts to murder his target, even when the surprise assault left him disarmed and held at blasterpoint by Agent Bastion. Undeterred by the loss of his own weapon after Organa deprived him of it, the Dowutin asserted to his would-be victim that great victories and prizes were worth fighting for, trying to strangle the princess, who identified her attacker by the term "fanatic". Even after his capture, Saycos remained confident in the eventual triumph of Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard and his coalition, answering the contempt that Leia expressed for his religion with a boastful retort, explaining that even though his leader could not match the New Republic and Galactic Empire, the rogue governor could use the impending conflict at Jakku to tip the scales for his benefit.[1] Unlike some individuals that harboured ties to the Acolytes, such as Yupe Tashu and Reyna Oskure,[4] Hawn demonstrated a sustained allegiance to Adelhard that continued even after his objectives conflicted with those of the Empire.[1]
As an individual affiliated with a cult that revered the Sith, Saycos Hawn addressed the Force in a manner that likened the cosmic energy to a tool. When confronted by Leia Organa after his attempt to eliminate her failed, the Dowutin lamented that the Force had failed him, though his target dismissed such talk and his religion, claiming that the Acolytes of the Beyond clung to their concept of an era that had never existed. Throughout his exchanges, Hawn made several declarations where he compared the Acolytes to items such as daggers and poison, addressing individuals belonging to the sect as "shadowy tentacles".[1]
