Sarkese was a language spoken by the Sarkan[1] Melas[4] while they were smoking a pipe[2] at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley spaceport on the planet[5] Tatooine[2] in 0 BBY.[6] Sarkese shared its name with the Sarkan homeworld Sarka[7] in the Mid Rim Territories.[8]
Behind the scenes
Sarkese was created for the[2] 1997 Special Edition re-release of the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[9] The language heard in the film was identified as Sarkese in the 2019 video "Every Language in Star Wars Movies," which was part of the Star Wars By the Numbers series created by StarWarsKids.com.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Sarkese was introduced as the native language of the Sarkan species in the 2003 Star Wars Roleplaying Game supplement Ultimate Alien Anthology, which was released by Wizards of the Coast; however, it was never associated with the language heard in A New Hope in that continuity.[10]
